Chosen Brief - Music Video

This brief requires us to create a promotion package for the release on an album, including a music promo video, together with two of the three ancillary products:

  • A website homepage for the band

  • A digipak for the album's release

  • A magazine advertisement for the digipak

We chose this brief for a number of reasons. Firstly, we all thought we would enjoy making a music video, especially as we can choose

any song we like, rather than being forced to choose out of a selection of songs. It is important that we decide on a song we all like, because if one of us doesn't like it, they may feel less inclined to put as much effort in. Secondly, the ancillary products appeal to me. We will be making a digipak and magazine advertisement, instead of a website homepage, as

that raises copyright issues, and getting permission from the band of the song we end up selecting will be hard. Furthermore, I like and have experience using Photoshop, so these two ancillaries are a good choice for me.

George (See group section in 'Pre-Planning') made a music video for his media GCSE, and achieved a high grade, so already has experience with making one.

However, it did come with some disadvantages. One being finding a song that we can all agree on, as everyone has different tastes in music. Fortunately, the ancillary products are individual, so we can produce something completely different from one another if we want. Also, because we have so much freedom, it could lead to us spending too much time deciding on a song / narrative / how we want our ancillary products to look etc... Finally, (it depends on our narrative) we may have to find multiple locations, which will take time to research / get to and film there, and it may require permission to film there, but with careful planning, we will overcome this.

Ultimately, we felt that the advantages outweighed the disadvantages for this brief.
