Song Choice

Choosing the right song for our production is definitely a key part in the success of our music video. It had to be one that we all liked and could agree on, rather than one that not everyone would get on as well with, as it may lead to

Firstly, we made a list of songs we like, then quickly narrowed them down to these:

  • Jet - Are You Gonna be My Girl

  • Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Dani California

  • Ellie Goulding - Love Me Like You Do

  • Junior Senior - Move Your Feet

  • Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc

  • Adele - Someone Like You

  • Wiz Khalifa - See You Again

  • Coldplay - Viva La Vida

  • James Bay - Let It Go

After discussing what sort of mood and 'feel' we wanted our final product to reflect, we decided that it should be more emotional and touching, rather than energetic and upbeat. Because of this, we decided not to use the first 3 songs in the previous list, as they are all simply 'happy' songs.

Gorillaz - Feel Good inc

Although it has a fast pace, rapping in parts, and upbeat sections, we felt that this song has a really good ‘feel’ to it, especially the chorus. However, we thought that the over the top laughing and rap sections put us off and we weren’t sure how to incorporate convincing performance. We thought about having our actor playing guitar long with the chorus, but it would mean they have to learn the song to look good. We couldn’t come up with as many ideas like we were with James Bay – Let it Go, so got a bit stuck.

Adele - Someone Like You

This song carries such emotion behind it. Adele says that she was struggling when she wrote it.  “I was feeling pretty miserable and pretty lonely” It was after her break up of her 18 month relationship with the man she thought she would marry, and a few months later, he was engaged to someone else. The things that put us off were her distinctive voice and that this song is linked to very strong emotions. It would be hard for people to disassociate it from her, and finding someone who’s face fits and can make their performance look realistic would be a very hard challenge.
